3 Peaceful Places on Key West
Key West is a small island. It can sometimes seem difficult to get away from the crowds, but there are a lot of places on the island to take a break and enjoy some quiet time. Here are three places you can do just that.
1. Fort West Martello
Fort West Martello, a tower that dates to the Civil War Era, is now home to the Key West Garden Club. Although small, the gardens here are beautiful. Grab a seat on one of their
benches and enjoy some nature just steps away from one of the busiest beaches on the island.
2. Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden
Although it is in the city of Key West, the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden is actually on a different island – Stock Island. The garden is the only frost-free botanical garden in the continental United States. They have self-guided tours for those who would like to learn more about the garden, or you can just wander on your own.
3. Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
You won’t get entirely away from the crowds at Fort Zachary Taylor State Historic Park – especially at sunset, when many people descend on the park to see what is arguably the best view of sunset on the island – but it is rarely crowded. Even better for those who are looking for a swim, its beach is one of the least crowded on the island.
