Nestled along the Park Loop Road at Acadia National Park lies (mostly) unmarked Little Hunters Beach. This quiet cobble beach, often overshadowed by more popular destinations in the park, offers a delightful escape for anyone willing to venture slightly - very slightly - off the beaten path. Although it has the stunning scenery that seems to lie around every corner at Acadia National Park, perhaps its most captivating feature is the way it sounds. Curious? Keep reading to learn how a beach is more impressive for its sound than its scenery.

The Unique Sound of Little Hunters Beach
Once reaching Little Hunters Beach, it appears like many other beaches at Acadia National Park - beautiful and scenic. But visitors quickly realize something here is different - and it's the sound of the beach.
The cobbles along Little Hunters Beach create a mesmerizing rock symphony as the waves roll them up and down the shore. This is not the soft murmur of a sandy shore or the harsh clatter of a rocky coastline. As the water ebbs and flows, the cobblestones gently collide and dance with one another, forming a soundscape that is truly distinctive.
Here's a link to a video we took last time we were at the park, where you can hear the sounds for yourself.
Nature’s Studio: A Favorite for Local Artists
Little Hunters Beach has become a cherished location for local artists, many of whom visit to paint en plein air. The breathtaking scenery, framed by the unique cobbled beach and the mesmerizing ocean, is a favored spot for those looking to capture the essence of Acadia.
If you visit at the right time, you may catch an artist lost in the colors of nature, their easel positioned against the stunning backdrop of this magical beach. Don’t hesitate to bring your own art supplies! Sketch the rolling waves or capture the brilliant hues of the sunset. Even if you aren't an artist, the serene atmosphere encourages reflection and appreciation of the natural world.
A Hidden Treasure in Acadia National Park
Despite its unique nature, Little Hunters Beach is not a major attraction in Acadia National Park. While it is indicated on park maps, there are no road signs along the Park Loop Road indicating where the beach is located. This lack of signage results in a "hidden gem" experience, perfect for escaping the crowds found at more well-known spots along the Park Loop Road.

To find Little Hunters Beach, as you drive along Park Loop Road, watch for a staircase leading down to the beach on your left, as you near the area indicated on the park map as Littel Hunters Beach. Near this staircase, an information board provides helpful insights about the area - and also indicates you are in the correct location. A gravel shoulder runs alongside the road, offering parking.
Little Hunters Beach may not be the most renowned destination in Acadia National Park, but it undeniably deserves a spot on your itinerary. Whether you aim to reflect, capture stunning scenes, or simply enjoy the soothing embrace of nature, Little Hunters Beach is an ideal spot. Do not miss out on the chance to uncover this
well-kept secret of Acadia National Park!
